NE-YO PAINTS SOUTH AFRICA RED

Three-time Grammy award winning star Ne-Yo is in the country to unveil Malibu Red, a new flavour in the Malibu rum stable. Elected the Chief Creative Director of Malibu Red, Ne-yo had a lot of input in the development of Malibu Red. “Malibu Red is diversity. There is the Malibu rum which is the smooth and the tequila which is the fire, and they probably shouldn't make sense together but they do. That's where Malibu Red comes in,” he said. In most cases, when musicians tie their names to an alcoholic beverage, usually the artist would be a rapper. It is rare to see the R&B types sell a product with their fame. “This was more than just attaching my name. I don't do that because I am not that type of guy. It's got to be something I am personally involved in. I partially came up with the idea of Malibu Red and it was a collaborative effort. I would naturally take tequila and mix it with rum just because I don't personally dig the taste of tequila. So the people from Malibu hit me to say that they were thinking of mixing tequila with rum and I was already doing it so I was halfway there,” he explained. “I attached my name to this venture to expand the Ne-Yo brand. My job is to handle everything from the design of the bottle, the logos and the right mixtures for the blend. We didn't want it to be too much rum for the tequila drinkers or too much tequila for Malibu drinkers to enjoy it as well,” he added. Interestingly, the singer was sporting red colours and his recent album is entitled R.E.D. He explained that this was done deliberately to tie in with his affiliation with Malibu Red. “Everything was on purpose. When I was in the process of putting out my fifth album, “R.E.D” just kept coming up in a positive way. And to tie in with Malibu Red we named the album R.E.D to mean 'realising every dream' a thing that I strongly believe in,” he said. With the countless fans that he has had over the years, it is only natural to worry about whether they will get the right message when it comes to him being associated with alcohol, especially with many young people abusing it. “My take on that is enjoy and remain classy. There is nothing classy about being the guy stumbling into everyone at a club, or the guy sitting in a curb in your own vomit. With that being said, it is celebration within moderation. That's the catchphrase we go with,” he said. “As for underage drinkers, all I can say is don't do more than what you ready for before you are ready for it,” he added. Performing at a secluded venue tonight to promote Malibu Red, Ne-yo promised a great show with a couple surprises in store. “This is the Malibu Red launch and I have to take it to what I know and what I know is music and stage, so we'll get out there and have a good time,” he said

HAS KANYE WEST DROPPED THE KOKOMASTER DBANJ?

kanye west n dbanj
kanye and dbanj
If the latest development at Kanye West's G.O.O.D Music label could be read different meanings to, then, it might be fresh trouble for D'Banj. This is because the Kokomaster's name, who was reportedly signed on the label in 2011, was missing in the latest Complex Magazine cover that featured the label's artistes. Now this might just appear not to be a big deal but the fact is that all other signed artists were on the cover while his was missing....that should account to something right? A rumor about D Banj being let go had surfaced online last year but the koko master brushed them off as just that- rumors but this might just get the rumor mills rolling once again. In the August-September 2012 issue of the magazine, G.O.O.D Music artistes; Kanye West, John Legend, Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Q-Tip, Common, Big Sean and 2 Chainz were featured but D'Banj's name or picture was no where to be found. Some have already started asking questions about the true status of the Nigerian music star at the label.Reports claim that the singer now frequents Nigeria than before perhaps because he has more time now? He also became a regular in London after his reported Mercury label deal came through. In 2012, D'Banj and Don Jazzy parted ways after it was reportedly that both stars were signed by Kanye West into his label, maybe they were signed as a team and now that hes not together with the award winning producer things are not working out as planned. Either way, the truth always finds its way out sooner or later.

MAFIKIZOLO MAKES A COMEBACK

After six year break  South Africa's Kwaito group make a come back with a new hit song 'Uhuru' that has already taken airwaves in Mansi by storm.  The album, which is being produced by DJ Oskido alongside Maphorisa of Uhuru, will be released at the end of next month. They are at the finishing stages of cooking up their seventh CD, which is likely to be titled Reunited. Mafikizolo singer Nhlanhla Nciza is ecstatic about their new release. "This has been an exciting and a blessed project. "We will be releasing our album next month, though we haven't yet decided on the title. We're thinking of naming it Reunited because it makes sense for us after being apart for years," she says. The group isn't only making a comeback - they have also refreshed their sound. It is totally different from their previous hits. Nciza calls it a blessing to have met some young producers in the industry who have helped with the evolution of the traditional Mafikizolo 60s sound. "We were lucky to have upcoming producers, who helped us come up with fresh ideas," she says. The duo, who are known for their Afro-pop style, have moved on to become an African house sensation. Their new hit is a dance and sweat tune. They have adopted an African style in the song and it sounds rather like an Angolan melody, though it is sung in isiZulu. By the look of things, it is bound to make waves in other African countries as well. "We wanted an African feel. Many of our tracks on the new album have a unique sound, though some of our songs are still Afro-pop," Nciza says. The twosome were last seen in the music industry in 2006 after releasing their sixth album, Mabone, before trying to launch solo careers. Mafikizolo started in 1996 with three members - Nciza, Theo Kgosinkwe and the late Tebogo Madingoane.

P-SQUARE VOW TO KAMPALA

P-SQUARE have threatened never to set foot in Uganda for they blame on their December vent promoter. The duo told a Nigerian website  www.nigeria lms.com shortly after their Chop My Money concert at the Lugogo Cricket Oval last month. “We will not set foot back in Uganda, come what may,” the twins are quoted to have said. They claim that were mistreated and unlawfully held captive at a certain five-star hotel in Kampala over unsettled bills. The bills are said to have been accumulated outside of performance, accommodation and transport, which the promoter catered for in their contract, leaving any other personal expenses out.
But it was their own mistakes according to close sources not the promoters. So P-Square, carry your load...
